A circus parade in St George Street, Papatoetoe, December 1962. An unidentified correspondent has commented on this photograph: "The man leading the elephants is my uncle. His name is Pamatatau Cullen. He passed away on 18 April 2008 aged 69. He would've been 70 on the 22nd April. He used to love working with the circus. Bullen's Circus would be the one in this photograph, coming to Papatoetoe." Another circus elephant story was reported in the vicinity in 1939: "Driving through Otahuhu in the early hours last Saturday morning, a motorist was amazed when a vast black shape, which materialised in front of the car, turned out to be an elephant. It seems that a circus is wintering in the vicinity." New Zealand Observer, 23 August 1939, p. 5
