Postal services for this area began at the Raglan Hotel, Woodside (now called Wiri or Manukau). The postal facility was transferred to the Papatoitoi Railway Station in 1875 and in 1915 the first Papatoetoe Post Office building was opened in Shirley Rd, relocating to St George Street in 1966.

The first Papatoetoe East Post Office opened in 1935 inside a family store on Great South Road. It moved to its own shop in 1953 as the increasing population saw growing demand for postal services. It was then relocated to the new Papatoetoe East Post Office in 1963. The name changed to the Hunters Corner Post Office in 1977.

By the late 1980's it had again outgrown its premises, and in 1990 was replaced by a larger building nearby, which brought together the main Papatoetoe Post Office (formerly cnr St George St and Kolmar Rd) and the former Papatoetoe East Post Office. With the closure of many Post Offices throughout New Zealand, this building currently operates as a New Zealand Post Delivery Centre - the postboxes remaining and other postal services available within a bookshop in Hunters Plaza.
